Overview
Advertisement No. IOCL/MKTG/WR/APPR/2026-27 is dated 05 October 2026 and covers 335 tentative apprentice seats in the Western Region. The engagement is under the Apprentices Act, 1961 and covers Technician, Trade, Graduate and Data Entry Operator categories.
The seven listed States and UTs are Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. Candidates must choose a training location within this region and can apply for only one discipline code.
The training period is 12 months. IOCL states that apprenticeship training is a skill-building engagement and does not create an obligation to offer employment after training. An apprentice cannot claim a job on that basis.
PwBD applicants should check the code restrictions carefully. PwBD candidates cannot apply for codes 101 to 111, while horizontal PwBD reservation is printed for Graduate and Data Entry Operator seats.

Eligibility
The qualification depends on the discipline code. Candidates must have acquired the relevant qualification within the notified period and by 30 September 2026.
Technician Apprentice, Codes 101–106
A 3-year regular full-time Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil, Electrical & Electronics, or Electronics is required. The qualification must have been acquired between 01 April 2023 and 30 September 2026.
The prescribed aggregate is 50%, with 45% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates on reserved positions. Part-time, correspondence and distance-learning qualifications are not eligible. A lateral-entry Diploma is eligible when the aggregate of all Diploma semesters meets the percentage requirement.
Trade Apprentice, Codes 107–111
Candidates need Matric plus a 2-year regular full-time ITI qualification through NCVT/SCVT in Fitter, Electrician, Electronics Mechanic, Instrument Mechanic, or Machinist. The ITI qualification must have been acquired between 01 April 2022 and 30 September 2026.
No percentage floor is printed for these ITI codes.
Graduate Apprentice, Code 112
A regular full-time graduate qualification in any discipline is required, with the advertisement naming BA, B.Com and B.Sc among the qualifications. The qualification must have been acquired from 01 April 2023 to 30 September 2026.
The required aggregate is 50%, or 45% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates on reserved positions.
Data Entry Operator, Codes 113–114
For code 113, candidates need Class 12 qualification, must remain below graduate level, and must have acquired the qualification between 01 April 2022 and 30 September 2026. The required aggregate is 50%, or 45% for SC/ST/PwBD candidates on reserved positions.
Code 114 requires the same Class 12 and below-graduate condition plus a Domestic Data Entry Operator skill certificate of less than one year from an NSQF awarding body or another Central Government recognised authority.
Higher Qualifications That Make a Candidate Ineligible
Candidates who have, or will have completed before joining, B.E./B.Tech, MBA or equivalent, MCA, CA, ICWA, LLB, or an equivalent higher professional qualification cannot apply. The advertisement requires a declaration at joining, and suppression of such information can end the training.
Other Eligibility Conditions
Part-time, correspondence and distance-learning qualifications are not eligible. Candidates who have already completed an apprenticeship in the same trade are also subject to the conditions printed in the advertisement regarding the gap before another apprenticeship.
A completed earlier apprenticeship requires a minimum one-year gap. If the earlier contract ended, a three-month wait applies, except for women. No wait applies where the employer failed. Termination for the apprentice's own failure bars a fresh contract.
OBC reservation uses the Central List. A State-list-only caste is not treated as OBC-NCL for this recruitment. Creamy-layer OBC candidates may apply as UR if they meet the UR age.
SC, ST and OBC-NCL candidates applying for unreserved seats are considered only on General standards.
PwBD Eligibility
PwBD candidates cannot apply for codes 101 to 111. Horizontal PwBD reservation is printed only for Graduate and Data Entry Operator seats.
The identified categories include low vision and blind, hard of hearing and deaf, musculoskeletal disability involving one arm or one leg, dwarfism, acid-attack victim, cerebral palsy, leprosy cured and multiple disabilities from the listed categories. A disability certificate under the 2017 Rules is required.
The advertisement states that other disabilities are excluded because the engagement is in a hazardous industry. Employment Exchange or Vocational Rehabilitation Centre registration does not replace the portal application.
Age Limit
The age limit is 18 to 24 years as on 30 September 2026. The relaxation printed in the advertisement depends on the category and whether the relevant post is reserved.
| Category | Upper Age on 30 September 2026 |
|---|---|
| UR / EWS | 24 years |
| OBC-NCL, for reserved posts | 27 years |
| SC/ST, for reserved posts | 29 years |
| PwBD (UR/EWS) | 34 years |
| PwBD (OBC-NCL) | 37 years |
| PwBD (SC/ST) | 39 years |
For example, a 23-year-old UR candidate born on 01 October 2002 is within the 24-year limit on the cut-off date. A 25-year-old UR candidate born on 29 September 2001 exceeds the stated maximum age.
Stipend
The IOCL advertisement does not print a fixed rupee stipend. It states that the monthly rate will be as prescribed under the Apprentices Act, 1961/1973 and the Apprenticeship Rules, 1992/2019/2025, as amended.
The supplied Rules amendment, notified as G.S.R. 610(E) and effective from 11 September 2025, sets the following minimum rates: ₹12,300 for graduate or degree apprentices, ₹10,900 for technician or diploma holders, ₹9,600 for Class 12 pass-outs, and ₹9,600 for National or State certificate holders.
These statutory minimums are not a rupee figure printed in the IOCL advertisement. The engagement letter prevails, and the stipend is subject to attendance and the training rules.
Application Fee
No application fee is printed in Advertisement No. IOCL/MKTG/WR/APPR/2026-27. The advertisement also does not mention a refund.
Selection Process
There is no written test and no interview. Selection is based on the percentage in the essential qualification, followed by document verification and pre-engagement medical fitness.
- Register and apply on the correct NATS or NAPS portal against the notified establishment.
- A merit list is prepared using the percentage in the prescribed qualification for candidates who meet the notified criteria.
- Shortlisted candidates are called for document verification at a unit or office decided by management.
- Candidates must complete the pre-engagement medical fitness test and be found suitable under IndianOil's format.
- Eligible candidates whose documents and medical certificate are in order are issued an offer of engagement.
- Seats that remain unfilled from the first shortlist may be offered from the same panel-cum-merit list.
Document verification or empanelment alone does not create a right to engagement. Filling a seat remains subject to management discretion. False information can cancel the candidature and may lead to prosecution, as printed in the advertisement.
